jeffJeff Dornenburg: President & Creative Director

The founder of Dornenburg Design (now DKA), Jeff is an expert in consulting with clients to help them shape their positioning and core messages – the disciplines around which successful branding campaigns are built.

Prior to opening his own business, Jeff was Assistant Creative Director for The Travelers and Art Director for ITT Hartford Life Insurance Companies. A graduate of Boston College, he holds a B.A. in Philosophy.

He has served on the Board of Managers of the Farmington Valley YMCA, the Simsbury Economic Development Commission, the Farmington Valley Arts Center and the Urban League of Greater Hartford. He recently finished seven-year term as trustee of the Watkinson School where he served vice president of the board. Jeff currently serves on the board of Simsbury Meadows Performing Arts Center and as a member of Simsbury’s Economic Development Task Force.

Did you know?
Jeff is an avid bird watcher. Among his favorite birds are crows and ravens because they are extremely resourceful and maintain strong family ties. And like Jeff, they can’t sing to save themselves.


jeffTod Kallenbach:  Vice President, Client Services & Media Director

Tod has a solid understanding of how to bring strategy and creative to life in diverse markets and media.

Prior to joining DKA in 2004, Tod was Senior Director of External Relations for The Bushnell Center for the Performing Arts. He also held positions as Assistant Director of Corporate Communications for Gerber Scientific, Inc. and VP/Sr. Account Supervisor at O’Neal & Prelle Advertising & Public Relations. His in-depth experience in agency, corporate and non-profit marketing includes market research, strategic planning, brand development, product positioning, advertising, public relations, sales promotion and special events.

Tod is a graduate of the University of Connecticut with a BA in Communications. He is Chairman of the Burlington Economic Development Commission and Past President of the American Marketing Association-Connecticut Chapter. Tod was awarded the 2017 Distinguished Citizen Award by the Burlington Chamber of Commerce.

jeffKathy Bousquet: Graphic Designer

With distinctive design that is always strategically on-target, Kathy‘s main concern is what’s right for the client. Her work runs the gamut from annual reports to tradeshow materials to outdoor media.  Since joining DKA in 1996, Kathy with her typical meticulous style, has been a mainstay of our design process. She’s worked on a variety of project assignments including identity systems, logos, marketing and branding. Before something leaves here, Kathy’s probably participated in some part of it – and improved it by doing that.

Previously, Kathy held graphic design positions with Ensign-Bickford, Fitzgerald Direct Marketing, Inc. and Pratt & Whitney Aircraft. She is a graduate of Paier College of Art in Hamden, CT where she earned a B.F.A. in Graphic Design.

Kathy marches with the Connecticut Patriots Senior Fife and Drum Corps and is the Director of the Windsor Junior Fife and Drum Corps. We’re still trying to get her to play the fife for us…


Tim Curtis: Graphic Designertim

Tim took the long way round to becoming a designer, going to school for music, fixing computers, and even installing solar panels before he figured out what he wanted to do, and went after it. He would tell you though, that those experiences made him a better designer than he otherwise might have been. Tim has the creative and technical know how to take on both web and print projects without skipping a beat, and the well rounded background to connect with clients and understand their goals and needs.

A graduate of the University of New Haven with a BA in Music and Sound Recording, Tim joined DKA in the spring of 2015. Previously he was a full-time freelance designer, and held design positions at The Pert Group, and Simplified Energy Solutions.

Tim is a lover of all things frisbee! He regularly plays catch with his dog Augie, gets out into the woods to play disc golf, or plays Kan Jam and Ultimate Frisbee with friends. If you ever need a catch, he’s probably got a frisbee or three in the car!


Samantha Schon: Graphic Designer

Growing up, Samantha was always drawn to art and computers. Creating and manipulating miscellaneous graphics on the family computer became her hobby. Today, she uses her talents to help clients improve their brands and create successful marketing materials. Samantha has a great deal of experience with digital design from her previous position at Martino & Binzer, now Bluespire Marketing. Paired with her freelance print design experience, she has a well-rounded knowledge of graphic design that is essential for her position. She is conscientious and intentional with every project, keeping in mind what is best for the client every step of the way.

Samantha attended the University of Rhode Island in 2009 pursuing a major in Environmental Science. The Oceanography and Geology classes were a couple of her favorites, but she wanted to explore her ever-present love of computers and graphics. She eventually transferred to Central Connecticut State University and earned her degree in Graphic/Information Design with a minor in Communication in December of 2013.

Samantha enjoys living by Lake Garda in Unionville, her lifelong residence. She likes to go for runs through the neighborhood and practice yoga. Samantha LOVES cats and her large family, she has 20 first cousins!


jeffNancy Dornenburg: Office Manager

Nancy uses her life-long love of words and language to help us put even the most wayward copy back on track. Proofing or editing, she is at home with a red pen in hand. Nancy’s favorite phrase is, “Let’s try something different this time.”

A graduate of the University of Vermont, Nancy holds a Masters Degree from Boston University School of Social Work.  While serving on the board of the Hartford Hospital Auxiliary, she co-chaired a number of committees and coordinated distribution of the Auxiliary’s funds to applicants. Currently Nancy is on the board of the Friends of the Simsbury Public Library.
